Nikon just rolled out their version of a mirrorless camera.
From those cameras, Canon can learn a whole lot and perhaps give the people what they want in a camera.
Here are a few things that Canon provide that the Nikon mirrorless lacks:
Dual Slot Memory Cards -
The Z6 and Z7 only has one memory card slot. Sure it is an XQD card slot, but it's only one.
We all know that memory cards fail from time to time so Canon would be wise to provide their full frame mirrorless cameras with 2 slots. Whether it's CF2.0 or Compact Flash cards or SD cards. Just provide the people with 2 slots, and all will be well.
Even better AF for video. Canon has always had the best AF when it came to video. The dual pixel auto focus can not be beat. However, Sony has that amazing Eye AF. Canon would be wise to adopt something similar if not better. In terms of AF for photography I think they are all pretty much similar.
Bigger battery. I think the myth that mirrorless cameras need to be smaller than DSLRs are kinda stupid. Why? It doesn't make any sense at all. Make it just as big and give the people what we crave - better battery life for longer shoots. The fact that mirrorless cameras eats battery like crazy is something that should be a MAJOR factor when considering a type of battery for the camera. Historically, Canon has been great with their battery choices in their cameras, although their current mirrorless line doesn't like great battery life.
Basically Nikon is walking the path of Sony. But instead of learning from Sony's early mistakes, Nikon is just blindly following the path. Which does not make any sense.
Nikon should have had a A7III, A7RIII, A9 killer in their lineup. Instead they have cameras that compete with the previous A7 lineups. Which is disappointing to say the least.
What is worse is that Nikon is also making everyone pay for the adapter for the older lens. For reals? That is not cool. It should come included with the camera.
Just to recap, Canon needs to do the following:
1. Big Battery
2. Dual Pixel AF, Eye AF, Face tracking
3. 4K 60 using H265 codec, moving away from the huge files that Motion JPEG.
4. Dual card slots. Or better yet, triple card slots. Hey, you never know.
5. Include the adapter for EF lens with the camera
